Planet of the Apes Redux

Any of us who've traveled to or lived in New York City knows how unique the subway system is. Especially in recent years, the trains and stations are incredibly efficient and clean, considering that 7 million people use the system every day. So many of the stations are gorgeous, having been refurbished to restore original tile and signage.
In the system's 108 years there's never been a disaster on the scale of Hurricane Sandy.  So far seven subway tunnels under the East River are flooded. The MTA released a statement this morning about damage from last night's storm: "Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on our entire transportation system, in every borough and county of the region. It has brought down trees, ripped out power and inundated tunnels, rail yards and bus depots."
It could take four days to get most of the system up and running again.
